These games require you to think and remember things. This, and all Nancy Drew games are great IF you like to be challenged. Great fun for the right person.
I sent a message to technical support at the company that makes the game and it has been 6 days and I have received no response as of yet to help fix the game. I have been playing the game for several days and as I have gotten closer to solving the mystery, the game locked up on me. I was enjoying this alot as I do all the Nancy Drew games, but the game breaking is very frustrating to say the least.
I love most Nancy Drew games; they are so much fun I don't want to stop playing. The good games are logical, have an interesting setting, logical puzzles and a decent flow. I thought the lodge was ugly and had nothing interesting about it. (We didn't have to see the maid or cook so it would not have affected the story). It looked like it was going to send me on another tedious round of mindless and troublesome games. By making this temporary, we could accomplish what we needed in one or two days of cooking and cleaning rooms. Did she ever get to open those.
I never could, but I did quit just after I found Dan's journal. White Wolf of Icicle Creek began to bore me when I found out I had to cook 3 meals a day and clean rooms. I hope they improve their tites, I really do because most Nancy Drew games are more interesting. I couldn't deal with it anymoore. This was a mistake on the game developers part. This game lacked the magic of earlier titles. When you need hints, you could call Bess and George.
They could have had this be a temp thing until the real cook and maid showed up. Going outside into the snow was just as boring; I would have liked some interesting things with which to interact. I'm just grateful I rented this from the library and did not waste my money. I almost finished the game, but I had to quit because I was getting too frustrated. I've finished all and enjoyed them. What was the point of all the locked closets/cabinets in the lodge.
They are not easy. My sister and I are hooked. I plan on purchasing all of them. I have not encountered any problems loading any of these games except for The Legend of the Crystal Skull. I think some of the older ones have been reissued so they run smoothly with Vista.
I have the Vista OS. I absolutely love playing these games. I have had to get a walk-thru at some point on every one of them. Anyone who likes solving puzzles, some easier than others, will enjoy playing these games. I have all the ND games from #10-#19.
Directions for loading that game I found on the HerInteractive site. I do check to make sure that the game is Vista compatible.
What we liked:* Great plot and story line* Longer game play than recent Nancy Drew games* Fantastic graphics, the best so far* Really good puzzles and challengesWhat we didn't like:* Repetitive tasks, Nancy's cover is as a maid (and cook) so you have to clean rooms EVERY day* Limited exploration timeThis Nancy Drew game is a step up from recent installments and was a lot of fun for us.Recommended. The game pretty much follows the format of the most recent Nancy Drew games. "The White Wolf of Icicle Creek" is a very solid addition to the Nancy Drew game franchise. We are fans of the Nancy Drew games and up to now have played all of the other games. This time Nancy has to solve a fairly challenging mystery in a lodge filled with an interesting array of guests/suspects.
